Statement Officially authored by Esosa Osai

Over the past few years, we have seen the progression of Satan’s deception among musical, visual, publishing, and entertainment artists and creatives that claim to be Christian. As with all deception, it grows over time. What was once shameful and repented of (profane speech, ungodly music, drug use) is now openly promoted among believers. The leaven is almost leavening the whole lump.

Religion sells well as long as it’s mixed with perversion. Only those that are in Christ chase purity. It's good that everything that has breath can praise the Lord, However, there is a difference between the blurred lines of worldly religion, and the Congregation of the Body of Christ, that seeks purity, and worships God in Spirit and in truth. In order to purge out this dangerous leaven and start a new lump of purity in ministry, we need to redefine some things using the foundation of scriptures. We need to redefine what a Christian Artist is:

A Christian Artist is a servant of God first (Exodus 36:1-4). Music and artistic and verbal expression is not an end in and of itself. A Christian artist is a Minister of the Glory of God.

A Christian artist is a servant of people next, starting with family FIRST, and then the Congregation of saints (1 Timothy 3:1-6, 1 Timothy 5:8). Evangelism comes after obedience and true worship (Acts 2:42-47).

Unmarried Christian Artists, Ministers, and Servants focus on the things of God’s Kingdom, instead of seeking fame and glory from attaining the riches of the world (1 Cor 7:32).

A Christian artist, servant, or minister does not let financial pressure shape his/her ministry. Yes, the laborer is worthy of his hire, so it’s fine to accept freewill payments, donations, or offerings (Luke 10:7, 1 Timothy 5:18). However, if donations/offerings aren't enough, he works with his hands to provide for his needs (Acts 20:34, 1 Thessalonians 2:9). He won't compromise his message or seek ungodly partnerships to make extra money. He won’t sell his gift from God (Acts 8:20).

A Christian Artist shines Christ, not self or for culture (2 Corinthians 4:5). He/She glorifies God and is not ashamed to suffer as a Christian (1 Peter 4:16).

A Christian Artist, Minister, or Servant doesn't purposefully cause others to stumble. He seeks to edify, or build up others in the Word of God (Romans 14:13, Ephesians 4:39)

A Christian Artist, Servant, or Minister is not lazy, flippant, or slick with explanations of doctrine, but serious, thorough, and sober-minded as He/She represents the faith (Titus 2:7-8).

A Christian Artist does NOT partner with the ungodly in ministry (3 John 7-8). True servants of God don't brag about support they get from unbelievers. The Body of Christ is commanded by scripture to be helpers of the truth by ONLY receiving ministers that go boldly in the name of Jesus and don't willingly take financial support for their ministry from unbelievers. The point is that Christian Artists should be bold about the name of Jesus instead of crusading for, interviewing with, and scheming to raise support from people that don't believe your message. Preach with boldness and let support come from those that receive the message of Christ.

BSAC, the Biblically Sound Artist Coalition is a network of artists, writers, designers, producers, musicians, media personalities, singers, and Pastors who are passionate about the beauty and glory of God, and are concerned and active against the compromise and corruption that has infiltrated the Body of Christ. We use our God-given talents and resources to create and promote God focused music, publishing, and media for the body of Christ, and for reaching the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
